Theater Company to Present 'The Nutcracker - A Musical'

Lake Zurich-based youth theater company Young Actor's Studio Chicago is set to perform its third annual holiday show, "The Nutcracker - A Musical," Dec. 1 and 2 at Cutting Hall in Palatine.

In true Young Actor's style, this season's production puts a fun spin on the beloved holiday classic, "The Nutcracker," with a theatrical adaptation set in Germany that features songs and lyrics set to Tchaikovsky's original score.

In "The Nutcracker - A Musical," a small cast of 31 young actors captures the magic and fantasy of the original story by telling it through words, song and dance. On Christmas Eve, the mysterious Godmother Drosselmeier (Alexa Schneider) presents Clara (Emma Belew) with an unusual Nutcracker. That night she is awakened by a band of renegade mice, led by the evil Mouse King (Colin Groh).

The Nutcracker (Anthony Passarelli) — joined by a Ballerina (Abigail Roberts), Feline Legation (Jordan Dickson), and Mistress Marie (Britni Lacher) — battles the rodents and defeats the Mouse King. The heroes encounter more adventure as they travel to the Land of Toys to rescue a princess (Hannah James) from the wicked Mouse Queen (Brianne Saab) and, in their struggles, learn the true meaning of the season.

This delightful rendition of "The Nutcracker" will be sure to inspire a holiday mood in theater-goers of all ages. Young Actor's Studio Chicago takes the stage with "The Nutcracker - A Musical" on Dec. 1 and 2 at Cutting Hall, 150 East Wood St., in Palatine.  Both performances start at 7:00 p.m. and will run just over an hour.
