Great America Planning to Add New Coaster in 2014

Amusement park unveiling plans this week to the village of Gurnee.

Six Flags Great America wants to add a new coaster, replacing the Iron Wolf, and is making its proposal to Gurnee’s planning and zoning board this week, the Barrington Courier reports.

Great America has nearly seven miles of roller coaster rails, including the classic American Eagle. The Iron Wolf coaster was closed in September 2011.

Great American is asking for a height variance to build a new coaster with a maximum height of 165 feet, according to www.coaster101.com.

A series of YouTube video _ titled Follow the Journey _ teases the new coaster, hinting at a Guessiness World Record. The park is announcing its plans for the new coaster on Aug. 29, according to the site.
