Get Out for Farm Heritage Festival, Alpine Races

Plenty of fall, fun events nearby this weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22 and Sept. 23, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Lakewood Forest Preserve, Wauconda

Check out over 200 antique tractors, cars and steam engines, and other farm machinery at the 20th Annual Farm Heritage Festival. This two-day event celebrates farm life from the turn of the century to the present.  The event features a daily tractor parade starting at 1:30 p.m., and a petting zoo, open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Other activities include sheep herding demonstrations, live music, scarecrow making, wagon and barrel train rides and other children’s activities. Daily admission is $8 for adults, and $4 for seniors (ages 55 and up) and youth (ages four through 17). A two-day weekend pass is also available for $12 for adults and $6 for youth and seniors. Children three and under are free.

Alpine Races

Sunday, Sept. 23, Paulus Park

Alpine Runners will hold the Alpine Races Half Marathon, 5K Run/Walk, Youth Mile, Kids Races 1/2 Mile, 1/4 Mile and 100 Yard Dash. A great event for the whole family and some of the proceeds return to the Lake Zurich community.

Oktoberfest

Starts Sept. 21, Village Tavern, Long Grove

 

It’s Oktoberfest at The Village Tavern beginning with the Sept. 21 kickoff event through Oct. 14. An Oktoberfest beer tent, hayrides, plus German music, dance and culture make this a true Oktoberfest must-visit destination.

The Village Tavern Oktoberfest Kickoff starts it off with the tapping of the ceremonial keg at 7 p.m., sampling to follow. On Sept. 22-23, there will be hay rides throughout the town launching from The Village Tavern from 1-5 p.m. The Village Tavern will also be featuring live German music in their beer tent Sept. 22-23.

 

38th Annual Art in the Barn

Saturday, Sept. 22- Sunday, Sept. 23 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Good Shepherd Hospital

Bring the family to this annual event held at the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The juried art festival attracts thousands of people each year. In addition to art on display, there will be entertainment, food and games. The event is hosted by the Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Hospital.

Goebbert’s Farm and Garden Center Fall Festival Opens 

Saturday, Sept. 22-Oct. 31. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 40 W. Higgins Road, South Barrington

The highly anticipated Fall Festival is back! Pick out your perfect pumpkin, enjoy a pony or camel ride, eat freshly made apple cider donuts and even feed a giraffe at this family friendly festival. Enjoy this attraction seven days a week until Halloween. 

2nd Annual Barrington Honor Ride and Run  

Saturday Sept. 22, 7:15 a.m., Cook and Main Streets, Barrington

Participate in or watch the 30 mile bike ride, 5K and 10K runs taking place Sunday morning in Barrington. The proceeds from the event benefit Ride2Recovery, a program aiding wounded veterans. The opening ceremonies start at 7:15 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Cook and Main Streets. The presentation of the colors will start the event and the Rolling Thunder motorcycle group will lead riders and runners to start the races. Learn more at honorridebarrington.com
