Winter Storm Warning in Effect for Thursday

The National Weather Service upraded the storm watch to a Winter Storm Warning, from 3 p.m. this afternoon until 3 a.m., Friday.

Dec. 19

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Lake County. Watches are also in effect for Cook and McHenry Counties, while there are winter storm and blizzard warnings further west in northern Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service office in Chicago, "current indications are that totals of 2 to 6 inches are likely, with the higher amounts favored to be in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago."

Winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 miles per hour Thursday afternoon, with gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour.
