Tree Branches And Wires Down, Power Outages Remain After Storms Hit Lake Zurich

ComEd's automated system said it could take multiple days to restore power throughout the region.

The Village of Lake Zurich Public Works Department has been hard at work all morning clearing downed trees and branches blocking side streets and major intersections.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Wheelock said most subdivision roads, as well as main thoroughfares, are now clear, but there are still a large number of residences and businesses without power.

“A number of business and residences along Route 22 are still without power, though it is sporadic as one business may have power and the next doesn’t; we are still assessing,” Wheelock said.

No hard numbers have yet been reported on the number of households and businesses that continue to be without power, but Wheelock said the number is likely substantial.

There are also several power lines that were knocked down by the morning storms, many of which are still sparking and in backyards, but aren’t causing any major hazards, Wheelock said.

One street remains closed in the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District.

“Kimberly Road between Brookmont Lane and East Oxford in North Barrington is still closed due to power lines being tangled in the trees above the roadway,” Wheelock said.

Editor's note: ComEd's recorded message stated that more than 560,000 people are without power in the region and that it could take multiple days to restore power to all customers. Additionally, Lake Zurich Patch Twitter follower @rudyzepedajr23 reported that the lack of power shut down the CM Products plant today.
