Treacherous Road Conditions; Metra Reports Delays

Following an overnight snowfall, treacherous road conditions are being reported in the Chicago suburbs, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning remained in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday for DuPage, Cook, Will, Kendall, Grundy and Kankakee counties. A winter weather advisory was set to expire for Lake, DeKalb and Kane counties at 7 a.m. as snowfall had stopped and impacts were minor in those counties Wednesday morning, according to the NWS.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reported snow- and ice-covered highways throughout the Chicago suburbs Wednesday, according to the IDOT's winter road conditions website (see the road conditions map above).

As much as 5.2 inches of snow fell at Midway Airport as of 5:15 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Chicago's Facebook page. Wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph could cause blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility for drivers Wednesday morning.

Metra was also reporting delays Wednesday morning. Metra riders should expect delays throughout the day due to the weather-related conditions, according to the Metra website (see updates on delays above).
