More than 25,000 people came to Lions Park for games, carnival rides, food, music, shopping and a parade over the weekend.
Lions Club officials deemed this year’s Alpine Fest “successful” and a “great event for the community.”
The three-day event began Friday and ended Sunday evening. The 69th annual event featured rides, games, food, entertainment and, of course, the big parade.
Alpine Fest started as a carnival in 1942 to celebrate soldiers returning home from World War II. It initially was hosted by the volunteer firefighters, with the Lions Club offering to provide soda. The Lions Club took over Alpine Fest in 1945, hosting the festivities at the then-new Lions Park.
Plenty of food was available for purchase at this year’s fest, including burgers, fries, hot wings, Italian sausage, beef sandwiches, and brats with sauerkraut.
There also was a 50/50 raffle, with half of the proceeds going toward the Lions Club’s scholarship fund. A community blood drive was held Saturday.
