Meet the 'Perfect Dog': Tucker the Giant Marshmallow

Lovable escape artist seeks home with secure yard and no dog crates.

Hi there! I’m Tucker, a 10-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who’s a terrific example of the “Gentle Giant.” If you asked a child to draw a picture of a dog, they’d probably draw one that looks a lot like me, with the traditional floppy ears and symmetrical markings that make me a handsome “every dog.”

Me, I’m nonplussed by my good looks. I just concentrate on being a super-sweet, super-cool dude.

I love meeting new people. With just one “hello,” you’ll see that I’m quite the passionate kisser. I’m even friendly and gregarious with other dogs and cats.

When I first came to Young At Heart Pet Rescue, I was underweight at a wee 66 pounds. According to the vet, I should be closer to 75 pounds. I’m pleased to report that I‘m enjoying the journey to my target weight, as the road to Pound No. 75 has been paved with nutritious kibble and delicious treats.

I’m housebroken and trustworthy in the home. That’s good news because I very much prefer a comfy spot on a chair or the bed over being confined to my own space. Crates and gates bother me, so much so that I’ve become quite the escape artist. A securely fenced yard is a big “must” for me. My first day in foster care, I pushed away a couple of fence pickets so I could go exploring. I didn’t go far (Foster Mom found me introducing myself to her neighbors – they loved me, by the way), but wandering alone is how dogs end up at the pound (or worse!).

Did I mention that I find car rides delightful? If you have an SUV, I’ll enjoy riding in the way-back so I can get a good view of the world from the back window.

I’m a very healthy guy, but like some of us older, bigger gents, I do have a touch of “the arthritis.” I take a doggy anti-inflammatory every day to keep me feeling spry, and it works!

Everyone at the rescue refers to me as “the perfect dog” – a big, friendly marshmallow without an aggressive bone in his body. Just because of my size, however, they think a home without tiny kids would be best. After all, I’d feel terrible if I accidentally bowled over a little one!

I’m loving life in my foster home, so you’ll have to fill out an adoption application to meet me. I’m already neutered, microchipped, and up to date on my vaccinations. My adoption fee is only $165. Isn’t that a bargain for your new best friend?
