Weekend carwash raises $3,500 for woman and her family fighting ALS.

It was suds, kids, fun, water and one beautiful day in Lake Zurich when the Lake Zurich Quarterback Club and the Lake Zurich Flames held a fundraiser Aug.3 for a family fighting a debilitating disease.

The Quarterback Club and the Lake Zurich Flames hosted a carwash at Culver’s in Lake Zurich for DeeAnn Amos, who was recently diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Her son, Nate, played youth football in the Lake Zurich Flames organization is a volleyball player at Lake Zurich High School.

Volunteers raised over $3,500 to help the Amos family.

"It just felt like the right thing to do", said Marc Allgood, President of the Lake Zurich Quarterback Club. Nate’s former coach, Chris Dyer, and Lisa Mosack, a close fried of DeeAnn, approached Allgood to do something to benefit the family.

Allgood is the president of the parent run booster organization for Lake Zurich High School’s football program. He’s also an active member of the Lake Zurich Flames Youth Football and Cheerleading Board of Directors.
"I brought this idea to both organizations and after describing the need, both organizations said ‘We absolutely need to do something to help this family with their fight against ALS,’" he said.

That is where a powerhouse of volunteers got involved with all of the planning. Joe Plueger (Lake Zurich Flames), Lisa Carlson (LZ QB Club), Mosack (LZ QB Club and Friend to DeeAnn), and a cast of others began the planning of what to do to help the family. After meeting, these organizers decided the best way to raise funds was with a car wash. All worked tirelessly on organizing materials, volunteers, and a place to do this.

A very special thank you goes to Steve Anichini and the Lake Zurich Culver's team for hosting this car wash in their parking lot! After hours of scouring for sports team volunteers, another blessing was bestowed upon the organizers just days before the event.

A call was placed to Cyndi Smith, Head of Communications for the LZ QB Club, by a minister from a community youth group consisting of adult and youth volunteers from Northwest Family, Alpine Chapel and The Chapel Lake Zurich (Project Serve). They heard about the planned effort and offered their help to make the car wash a success. Showing up with a force of about 50 children, teens, and adults they joined the group of youth football, high school football, high school baseball, high school volleyball, and friends of Nate Amos.

DeeAnn and husband Chuck were there for a large part of the event. Tears swelled up in her eyes when she saw the large number of volunteers there on her behalf. DeeAnn was so emotional at the showing of support and wanted to say, "Thank you so much for all of the support!" to all of the volunteers.

A very big thank you to Alpine Chapel, Northwest Family and The Chapel Lake Zurich, the Lake Zurich Football Freshman, Sophomore, and Varsity volunteers, the LZHS Volleyball participants, the LZHS baseball participants, Culver's of Lake Zurich, the Lake Zurich Flames, and finally the members of the Lake Zurich Quarterback Club.

And a final shout out to the Lake Zurich Fire Department for bringing their truck through the wash! That was a sight to be seen! If you missed the Car Wash and would still like to show your monetary support for the family, please send your check made out to the "Lake Zurich Quarterback Club" (with a memo that states "Amos Family Fundraiser") to: Lake Zurich Quarterback Club P.O.
