Can you guess the answer to this week's "Bringing Back the Past" question?

For this week's "Bringing Back the Past" column, we'll take a brief look at the history of the Lake Zurich Lion's Club.

The , known as the "Alpine Lions," held its first meeting in the village in 1939 at Farman's Hotel. The group's intention, according to A Pictorial History of Ela Township, was to "foster civic improvement."

The president at that time was Russell Snetsinger.

The organization took on many projects in those early years:

  • Purchasing the defunct P.L.Z. & W. Railroad property to use as a park.
  • Restocking the lake with 25,000 fish.
  • Purchasing the center of the lake in 1944, ending years of litigation over whether the lake was publicly- or privately- owned.
  • Giving permission to the Little League organization to construct a baseball field at Lions Park in 1966.
  • Donating land to the village for construction of Lions Drive.

According to the Lake Zurich Lions Club website, the Lions also purchased the village's first street light and manned the first ambulance service. the group also provides scholarships and hosts community activities.

Now for today's question: What is the biggest event the Lions Club holds each year?
