Lake Zurich Girls Cheer On Royal Wedding Over Tea

Dressed up like princesses, eight little girls from Lake Zurich watched the Royal Wedding for the first time at a tea party hosted by Sue Kamman.

Millions of people all over the world woke up early or stayed up late to witness the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday, April 29. Eight little girls from Lake Zurich waited anxiously until Saturday afternoon to see the event at a Royal Wedding party hosted by Lake Zurich resident Sue Kamman and her 6-year-old daughter, Elizabeth.

“My neighbor and good friend, Hilary Schultz, and I had the idea to have a princess tea party and we pulled it together in two and half weeks,” Kamman said.

Formal invitations were mailed out to friends and eight little girls attended with their mothers.

The girls came dressed up in their prettiest princess attire, some wearing hats, others wearing tiaras and gloves.

Kamman’s daughter, Elizabeth, wore her Little Miss Ela Township crown and sash and Schultz’s six-year-old daughter, Julianne, wore her Little Miss Lake Zurich crown and sash.

“I’m most excited to see what Kate’s dress looks like,” said Julianne.

“I’m been excited to have this party at my house and to see Prince William and Kate get married,” Elizabeth said.

Kamman and her daughter feel like they have a special connection to the royal family.

“It is said, that someone in my family was a lady in waiting for Queen Elizabeth I,” explained Kamman. “Since then, every first daughter in the family must have Elizabeth in their name.”

This is a tradition that has been going on in Kamman’s family for over seven generations.

The girls were served sparkling non-alcoholic champagne and the mom’s sipped white wine. Everyone enjoyed the spread of finger sandwiches, homemade chicken fingers, fruit, and dips, served on silver and fine china.

For dessert, Cathi Volante, owner of Couture Cupcake Café, arrived with princess-themed red velvet and vanilla cupcakes.

Volante is a former marketing executive who changed careers and is in the midst of running her own online cupcake company and soon- to-be storefront in Kildeer (next to Jimmy John’s) in July.

The most anticipated moment of the afternoon came when everyone gathered around the television set and Kamman began playing the recorded wedding.

“I have 10 hours recorded,” said Kamman. “I have to admit, I watched all of it!”

The mom’s asked the girls who they thought was the cuter prince, William or Harry, and if they liked the hats the princesses wore to the wedding.

Everyone gasped as Kate Middleton stepped out of a Rolls Royce, revealing her wedding dress.

The afternoon concluded with everyone enjoying their cupcakes.
