Kids' Critters Roll to Finish Line in Hamster Ball Derby

Lake Zurich Petco hosts annual racing event on April 2.

Families were invited to bring their pet hamsters to their local store on April 2, to watch their tiny companions compete in races. The annual Hamster Ball Derby was part of a weekend "Meet the Critters" event that included educational opportunities and family fun.  Families and store patrons at the Lake Zurich Petco cheered on the speedy rodents, who were vying for 1st and 2nd prize. The winner received a Super Pet Critter Trail Treat Zone Habitat.

The kids who attended were taught that hamsters are one of the most popular mini pets in the world, are easy to handle and make a great starter pet for a young family. Also, that hamsters are nocturnal, can carry up to half their body weight in food in their cheek pouches, are solitary by nature and—last but not least—they love to race.
