Flooding Hits Lake, Cook Counties; 24-Hour Rainfall Totals for Area

Flooding closed roadways throughout the suburbs on Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall Tuesday closed roads and caused localized flooding for communities in Lake and Cook counties. 

Flooding closed intersections at routes 45 and 137 and routes 41 and 176 in Lake County while both northbound and southbound lanes of Dee Road were closed from Golf Road in Cook County for a period on Tuesday, according to the Daily Herald. 

Some cars became trapped at the flooded intersections but no injuries were reported, according to the article. 

In Glenview, 2.89 inches of rain fell in one hour during last night's storm, according to village of Glenview officials. Glenview dispatchers kept busy answering 259 calls between 7 and 8 p.m.

Power outages also affected communities throughout the suburbs. Hundreds still remained without power Tuesday morning, according to the ComEd Outage map.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service reported the following 24-hour rainfall totals for Tuesday for communities throughout the suburbs:

  • HEBRON: 3.82 
  • GLENCOE: 3.56 
  • BOTANIC GARDENS: 3.30 
  • LAKE FOREST: 3.30 
  • WOODSTOCK: 3.12 
  • HARVARD: 2.57 
  • LAKE ZURICH: 2.50 
  • BARRINGTON: 2.48 
  • MUNDELEIN: 2.48 
  • ELK GROVE VILLAGE: 2.37 
  • GURNEE: 2.28 
  • ELGIN: 2.26 
  • WAUKEGAN: 2.02 
  • WINNETKA: 2.01
  • HOFFMAN ESTATES: 1.99 
  • ROUND LAKE: 1.89
