DEA Drug Take Back This Saturday in Deer Park

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will be participating once again in the National Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Prescription Drug Take Back event on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.  The Sheriff’s Office will be conducting events at the Beach Park Village Hall, 11270 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park as well as the Deer Park Village Hall, 23680 W. Cuba Road, Deer Park.  Both locations will be open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.

Accepted items at the Take Back include: 

Expired Solid Prescription Drugs

Unwanted or Unused Prescription Drugs

Over the Counter Drugs (pill form)

Controlled and Non-Controlled Substances 

Items that will not be accepted:

Liquid Products

Intravenous Solutions

Injectable Drugs

Syringes

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. 

“We have had a tremendous response to this event in the past, collecting over 200 pounds of drugs in April,” said Sheriff Mark Curran, in a news release.  “DEA has done a great job with these events and we will continue to support their efforts for a very worthwhile cause.” 

The drug take back event is an effort to combat prescription drug abuse, especially among youth. 

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office collected 217 pounds of unused medications during the DrugEnforcement Administration (DEA) Prescription Drug Take Back event last April.

 Permanent Prescription Drug Drop-off Boxes are available throughout Lake County, including Lake Zurich.  Locations can be found at the Save a Star Drug Awareness Foundation website.
