Cruise Nights Fun For The Whole Family

Through the end of September, free event at Deerpath Commons Mall includes vintage cars, oldies music, refreshments and a farmers market.

You may want to cruise on out to the Deerpath Commons on Tuesdays this summer to enjoy a second year of Cruise Night events.

Cruise Nights, sponsored by the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce, are free, open to the public, and will include cars on display and a disc jockey spinning music from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.

“The main focus of our Cruise Nights are to provide an event for the whole family to enjoy while driving business into the Lake Zurich community,” said Larry Bowman, the event’s director.

Bowman said trivia questions about cars and area businesses will be posed to attendees throughout the event, and a variety of prizes will be awarded for correct answers.

Free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be donated by Timothy Grant Jewelers, and Hershey’s novelty ice creams, and Fruitful Frozen Bars will be for sale to enjoy while you browse the many cars on display.

“So far there have been 60 to 80 different kinds of vehicles since it began on May 31, from teenagers who have souped up their imports or domestics, to older vintage models, motorcycles and even minivans decked out in a sports theme,” Bowman said. “This is exciting and fun and anyone can be a part of it.”

A farmers market also will be stocked with fresh flowers, along with vegetables and other plants for the garden.

At the July 26 Cruise Night, 97.1 "The Drive" will broadcast live from a tent at the event and will have a number of giveaways for those who attend, said Bowman.

Cruise Nights will be held from 6 until 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday through Sept. 27 in the Deerpath Commons mall parking lot, 975-995 S. Rand Road.
