Chip, The Loving Pooch, Seeks Lots Of Hugs

Sweet 7-year-old shepherd mix seeks the open arms of a family.

When I see a young pup chewing on the leg of the dining room table, I wonder if people just don’t know about us mature pets. You know, the ones that are done chewing on furniture and know they should pee outside in the grass? I know, puppies are cute, but I guess I’m looking for people who know a good thing when they’ve found it, like a well-behaved, housebroken, trustworthy dog like me!

Allow me to introduce myself. My friends call me Chip, and I’m a very nice 7-year-old shepherd mix. I was once part of a family, because I know all about the rules of being in the house and riding in the car. I am perfectly housebroken, even in my foster home where there are a lot of smells that might entice a less-perfect dog! I’m very trustworthy, and unlike my younger counterparts you may find adorable, I’ll leave your expensive woodwork alone. I know that stuff isn’t for chewing on!

I love to be by my foster family so much that I even learned to climb the stairs to be near them! I had never been upstairs before, but I learned quickly. I sleep at the foot of the big bed but will happily sleep on the floor or in a corner, just to be by you. I am very good with my canine foster siblings, too. I let them eat first, and never touch their food or treats. I actually don’t know much about treats or toys. Can you imagine? Foster mom gives my canine brothers and sisters treats and when she gives one to me I just let it drop. I’d rather get hugs — I love those!

I am very good on leash and very well-behaved. I ride nicely in the car and really enjoy it when you take me places. I’m a great co-pilot! I’m a healthy guy for 7 years old, though I have some minor arthritis in my back leg from an old injury. I can’t walk for hours on end, but I can walk a half hour or so happily. Apparently I have a little food allergy, too, but foster mom feeds me salmon-based dog food and I do just fine on that. You can find that in any pet store, so it’s easy to keep me comfortable.

I’d be an excellent companion for just about any family, and if your arms are big enough to wrap around me in loving hugs, you really should come and meet me. Just fill out an adoption application to arrange a visit. I’m healthy and already neutered, up-to-date on my vaccinations, and microchipped. My adoption fee of $165 allows Young at Heart Pet Rescue to help other older dogs and cats like me get a second chance at a happily ever after. Think we’re a good match? I hope so! Because I’m ready to lean into all the hugs you’re willing to give me!
