Art in the Barn Marks 39th Year This Weekend

The art show is held on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

Art in the Barn started as an art show with 30 artists and 1,500 attendees has grown to one of the most unique and fine art festivals in the Chicago area with 185 artists exhibiting their work. Last year, over 6,500 people from around the area attended.

This weekend marks the art show’s 39th year.

Preparations are underway for the event being held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 Illinois 22, Barrington.

Art in the Barn is a juried art show that also offers fall fun, like music, entertainment, food, children’s art and pony rides.

All work displayed at Art in the Barn must be original, fine art quality, totally conceived and created by the artist. No commercially processed or mass-produced photography may be exhibited or sold and all paintings and drawings must be original, one-of-a-kind works.

The show is one of the major fundraiser s sponsored by the Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Hospital, which has donated more than $7.3 million dollars to the hospital, according to Good Shepherd’s website.

The Auxiliary received a percentage from the show that is used to benefit hospital construction projects and initiatives to enhance patient comfort and care. Funds are also used to provide college scholarships students pursuing degrees in the health care field.
