Roskam: Restore the 40-Hour Work Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act.

“Only in the alternate universe that is Obamacare does the federal government create the perverse incentive where employers have to limit employee hours.  Think about it: the Obama Administration is seeking to fundamentally redefine full-time work as something less than the typical 9-5, five days a week job that millions of Americans have relied on to support themselves and their families.  This Obamacare regulation is a direct hit to take-home pay, and it is part of a series of Obamacare rules that encourage companies to downsize their workforce or avoid hiring new workers.  That’s exactly the wrong direction for our struggling economy.  Today, the House voted to restore the 40-hour work week, enabling employers to continue providing full-time jobs without facing massive fines under Obamacare, and allowing individuals the chance to keep their full-time jobs, work regular hours, and earn a good wage.”
