Harmony 4 Hope Turns Up the Volume for Rare Disease Awareness

Play This Forward is an awareness campaign that serves as the cornerstone in the development of our nascent organization.  This campaign has been designed to deliver the comforting power of music to children who face the uncertainty and isolation that oftentimes accompanies a rare disease diagnosis.   "Simply put, this is our way of uniting people for the cause and saying to children and families impacted by the devastation of a rare disease, 'We care about you and you are not alone,'" says Founder, Kerry Hughes.

In launching this sustainable initiative, Harmony 4 Hope is asking people to contribute their retired  iPods, Nanos and Shuffles which are frequently found lying around our homes or unused at the bottom of our gym bags.  Harmony 4 Hope is also asking for contributions of iTunes gift cards to subsidize the cost of personalizing iPods for  children who are joining this movement daily.

"Our musical mission is spreading rapidly." says Hughes. "We recently welcomed Shaan Joshi, of Indiana, who bravely battles Joubert Syndrome and Jasper Duinstra of The Netherlands." Jasper is part of the closely knit Batten disease community who has inspired Hughes' efforts.

In addition to comforting children with Rare Disease, repurposing technology, raising awareness, and unifying community for this critical cause, the Play This Forward Campaign has also been created to engage community youth in meaningful and hands on outreach.  Harmony 4 Hope is currently seeking youth volunteers who will be responsible for not only programming the technology, but also communicating with these families in the creation of each child’s personalized playlist.

Music is a universal language that holds the power to unite people.

Hughes says, "Capitalizing upon this inherent attribute allows us to create an audience and deliver a message calling people to action for this critical cause that impacts 350,000,000 people worldwide. Where there is music, there is HOPE.”
