Ask Peter: Following Through on President’s Broken Promise

WASHINGTON – Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the latest installment of Ask Peter today, a frequent video conversation with Sixth District residents about issues important to them. In this segment, Congressman Roskam tells Diane Iser’s story, a breast cancer survivor from Hoffman Estates, who received a cancellation notice from her insurance company even though President Obama promised that if you like your healthcare plan you could keep it. Today, the House votes on legislation that follows through on the president’s broken promise.

"…President Obama made a very solemn promise to the American people. Something that he said dozens of times: that is, if you like your insurance policy, you’re going to be able to keep it; if you like your doctor, you’re going to be able to keep them. None of that is turning out to be true.  The House is taking action, and what we’re saying is, if President Obama can’t keep his promises we’re gonna try and make him keep those promises. And that is this: we’re passing legislation that says if you like your coverage, you do in fact get to keep it.  Health insurance is too serious and too deeply personal to leave it under the care of Obamacare, a fundamentally flawed program."
