Summer Camp Orientation May 7 at Waukegan Y
Families can learn all about enriching day camps that allow kids to discover who they are and what they can achieve this summer during a special orientation session Monday, May 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Northern Lake YMCA, 2000 Western Ave., Waukegan.
From swimming to craft projects and outdoor education, American Camp Association-accredited Y Day Camps, held at both facilities, offer a variety of fun and educational activities under the supervision of counsellors certified in first aid, CPR and AED.
Campers will build self-confidence, discover new skills, develop a respect for the outdoors and make new friends. They are divided into two age groups: grades K-4 and grades 5-8.
The younger group will have fun in a safe environment in which they can learn practical and social skills and develop positive values while participating in a variety of activities. The focus for the older group is on community awareness and career exploration through service projects, leadership initiatives and social development.
There’s also a preschool summer camp experience available for kids 3 to 5 years old at the Vernon Hills Y only. These young campers will participate in games, songs, crafts, and several field activities in addition to swimming one day each week.
Registration for all age groups can be done on either a weekly or an all-summer basis. Camps dates cover the period June 11 through Aug. 24. Parents who sign their children up by May 7 will receive $20 off the total cost. Space is limited, so parents should register their children early. Members of the Y receive discounted rates.
The summer day camps, like all Lake County Family YMCA programs, are designed to encourage the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Families unable to attend the May 7 orientation can learn more at www.ymcalakecounty.org or the Welcome Center at either the Northern Lake Y or Central Lake Y in Vernon Hills.
