Yes the cartoonist reads the comments and I appreciate all of yours. I cut Quinn some slack because for years he was a prominent advocate for consumes rights before finally scoring an elected position. As for the Blago hair, I took a bit of artistic license there keeping him in Elvis-Black. I also saw the news story about his brown-hair prison look. I depicted him in his most recognizable shade …   more ›

Lake Zurich High School to present "The Sound of Music" this week.
As Megan Deppen prepared to take on the role of Maria Rainer in the beloved musical The Sound of Music, she aimed to play the role in as genuine a fashion as possible. After watching the movie version, Deppen said the toughest part was "capturing (Maria's) energy. She's so aesthetic. She has an appreciation for music more so than anyone else. She looks at the hills and sees something truly magical." "Everyone knows the show," said Deppen. "I'm really honored to be Maria." Lake Zurich High School will present The Sound of Music April 25-28. All shows will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, 300 Church St. "We felt The Sound of Music was the perfect opportunity to showcase our talent this year," said director David Harmon. Spot-on casting and vivid sets make for an enjoyable lengthy, but fast-paced, movie.
Fans of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins can rest easy: the film adaptation of the first book is true to the novel. Sure, a few characters are downplayed in the film, with Gale Hawthorne (played by Liam Hemsworth) most notably cut to a minor part. However, the film portrays the desperate and hardscrabble existence of District 12 as though it is a Dorothea Lange photograph brought to life. It’s a sharp contrast to the vibrant — and expensive — life seen in the Capitol of the fictional country of Panem. But let’s talk plot. The movie begins on the day of the Reaping, where each of the 12 Districts is required to select two tributes (one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18) to compete in the Hunger Games, an annual event…
