Where to Find Harry Potter Author J.K. Rowling’s New Book in Lake Zurich
The new book, The Casual Vacancy, is to be released Thursday.
Harry Potter may have vanished into the past, but author J.K. Rowling is still around, with her for-adults book The Casual Vacancy due out Sept. 27.
The Ela Area Library will have four copies available for patrons. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were no patrons on the waiting list for the book, said Erica Christiansen, manager of popular materials at the library.
"Many, many people who grew up reading Harry Potter are adults now and I'm sure they will be interested in reading books by J.K. Rowling. But, it sounds like this book is very, very different from Harry Potter, so it may not have the same appeal," Christiansen said.
Christiansen noted that Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight series, did not have the same kind of stellar success with her adult book, The Host, as she did with her books geared toward youth.
You can find the book at Barnes and Noble in Deer Park, 20600 North Rand Road. A bookstore spokesperson said there will be plenty of copies available.
The new book by the creator of Harry Potter is aiming this book at a grown-up audience.
More than 2 million hardcover copies of her first novel are set to be released simultaneously in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
According to USA Today, the story is set in the little English town of Pagford, and revolves around an election held after a member of the parish council unexpectedly dies. Despite the Miss Marple terrain, press materials describe The Casual Vacancy as "blackly comic … Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war."
