Thick or thin? Straight or curly? With ketchup or not? Some French fry lovers are particular about their pototoes, while others are rather nondescriminatory when it comes to this side.

In case you needed an excuse to indulge in fries this week, we have one for you. Friday is National French Fry Day.

Earlier this year,  Bellaluke's of Lake Zurich was voted best fries in the Chowdown Showdown. Readers told us that Delicious Redds in Lake Zurich, Bulldogs in Wauconda and Five Guys in Deer Park are also among their top destinations for an order of fries.

For those willing to venture out of Lake Zurich, Tom & Eddie's in Vernon Hills is offering coupons for free fries with purchase of a sandwich and drink all week on its Facebook page. The restaurant is also hosting a coloring contest for children that awards Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head toys to the winners.
