So You Don't Celebrate Christmas Today, What's Your Plan Instead

Whether for religious reasons or because of work, not everyone is celebrating the holiday today.

For those who don't celebrate Christmas today (or any day) Dec. 25 can still be a nice day.

Almost everyone has the day off, so maybe you take advantage of that to spend the day with family and friends. Downtowns, parks and streets are usually empty, so perhaps you hit a favorite ethnic restaurant that's open or go for a quiet run or long walk.

For those working, the day often means visits from family bearing the gift of a home-cooked meal and the promise of a Christmas celebration on another day.

What's your non-Christmas Christmas Day tradition?

  • If you're not celebrating Christmas, how do you spend the day today?

    • I just enjoy a quiet day off. Nothing special, but enjoyable.

Is this a trick question? If I refuse to participate in Christmas traditions, will I not get a visit from Santa? If I do will I get anything desirable? Point is: people think Christmas is a paganistic tradition and only traditionalists benefit from it. Sorta like beaurocracy. When will the under dog ever get a hand up? I ask not as a victim, although I am. But instead I want to make the point of linguistic barriers, in having to ask for definitions on a holiday like Christmas. Proving it is a pagan tradition, that dates back in European customs. Secondly I ask because its unfair competition. If this tradition is based on paganism which holds its on cryptic language and democracies, then I can't understand Christmas, or benefit from it. I'm neutral.

Well I did cook. But being a vegetarian, on Tuesday thru Saturday. I had to eat my meal a day before. So instead of baby back ribs, Italian sausage (hot) and ham, I ate turkey today. Already. Yesterday I ate ribs. See now I'm back to being a vegetarian. Will probably change up on or around New Years. There's no time like now. Sob the ribs, ham, and hot links will be refrigerated until next Sunday and Monday. :)

Dear Melanie--Turkeys everywhere would like you to know they are not on the approved "vegetarian" list.

Merry xmas to all who celebrate.

I just started. So a little wiggle room would be in order. But swenk you are correct. I felt a little guilt about eating that turkey this morning. I will hope it receives its proper passing on rite. Bye bye turkey fly away. Gobble Gobble. I might take turkey off my menu. Thanks. :)

Holy cow! We weren't expecting that! Sheesh! You're making us vegetarians look bad.

We are actually opening our morning Santa and personal immediate family gifts today and spending time together. No running around like crazy! First year of doing so on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to you all!

Guess we All can't get along. It's fine. We can be individuals. I usually do my thing alone. My second time around being a vegetarian. First time it lasted five years, then I became a vegan for three years. Wasn't that pretty, but it helped. Now I'm stuck in a rut, and on thanksgiving I became a vegetarian on tues- thru - sat. Sun&Mon I'm free to not restrict. But vegan ism is actually the goal. And vegetarians do eat poultry. Including turkey. But since its a sensitive issue I will restrict. If I'm being offensive.

And I just said I don't understand the language, yet I'm coming off as offensive. But no need to stop with the politics, even if I have barriers, and can't really participate. Again not being offensive. I'm trying to learn to read and write better. I can't read that well. I'm trying.

This is what I lost recently. My furniture, my bike is broken, from a recent move. I had to leave my things at the other apt. Oprah Winfrey gave me a digital camera. HP donated a printer to me, it was left behind. My MacBook was hacked. My iPhone was dropped. I was malnourished since moving to Wisconsin. My clothes were all towed away in my car, and I'd like a new wardrobe. Just the things I lost in the last few years.

We are relaxing today because we had our Christmas celebration with family yesterday. This morning we had a special Christmas breakfast--just eggs and coffee cake. It's all good.

Melanie, go to a shelter or a church for help. Contact the police department and they can put you in touch with some organization. Sounds like it's been a crappy year for you.

I'm pathetic. Sorry about my posts. I misunderstood the question. I thought I was getting something for Christmas. But it seems Christmas is something too complex to understand. If I could answer again. I want to be near people that are familiar to me. I appreciate diversity. I do better that way. I want diversity. I'm thrilled with diversity. I'm grateful for diversity.

Ok im lost here . The question was if u dont celebrate xmass what do u do . An you people r talking bout being vegitarians but i eat meat on holidays . Thata so hypocritical ..... It reminds me of the church goin wana be catholic guy at work who preaches to all of us who dont go to church or who have babies ota wed loc that all who do are bad people ... But when i questioned him bout his true faith here is what happened .... He told me he was disapointed his kids voted democrat because he said the catholic church doesnt believe in abortion ... Which only strengthens my belief all religons are nothing more than cults.... An he potrays him self as a true catholic .... Ok so with all that said...... Here is what i cornered my true catholic good doer friend with .... I asked him if abortion would be an optin if his daughter was raped , an he said well yea. An i said oh really ur catholic so either u believe in it an are a trure catholic or you dont believe in it an ur not a true catholic. U cant have it ur way when u want Then dont preach it like u are better than other non church goers .... Second off if you are gona put ur self out there like an honest catholic. Dont tell me u are better than everybody else cause u are a cathloic church goer . Cause in the catholic church the only reason u should be having sex is to reprocreate. An he is in his 50s. Ian told me yes me an my wife still have sex an we use ways to get around getting pregnant
