Lake Zurich students learned a little about putting out fires and rescue this past week as firefighters from the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department visited and put on a fireighter challenge.
The kids got to slide down a fire pole, drag a dummy and fire hose and spray water at an imaginary fire. Afterwards, they were treated with ice cream from Culvers.
Fire Chief David Wheelock said Seth Paine and Isaac Fox students raise money annually for the I Am Me burn camp, a program of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (IFSA). This year the students raised about $3,200.
Burn Camp allows burn survivors to share their common experiences while being able to play and not feel self conscious about their scars. The benefits to the campers -- physical, psychological, and emotional -- have been enough to inspire a long list of eager volunteers and contributors, according to the IFSA website.
