Police: Man Duct-Taped Couple, Stole Paintings
Stolen paintings found in a Morton Grove consignment shop led Evanston detectives to arrest and charge a Glenview man in connection with a home invasion that took place in Evanston in April 2012.
Michael Karabatsis, 51, of the 600 block of Pfingsten Road in Glenview, was arrested and charged with home invasion, a felony, on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
Police believe Karabatsis was one of three men who knocked on the door of a home in the 2200 block of Central Street on Friday, April 13, claiming they had a delivery. They forcibly entered the home by kicking the man, age 67, to the floor, then knocked his wife, also 67, to the floor, police said. After strapping the couple's hands with duct-tape to keep them from escaping, the men stole four pieces of artwork.

22 Charged In Fraternity Hazing Death
Twenty-two fraternity members at Northern Illinois University face criminal hazing charges in the death of David Bogenberger, 19, formerly of Palatine.
Members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity started to surrender after 22 arrest warrants were issued Dec. 17. According to reports, five people were charged with felony hazing, 17 face misdemeanor charges.
NIU students from Mount Prospect, Roselle, Skokie, Glendale Heights and Naperville are among the 22 fraternity members listed in the arrest warrants issued Monday, the Daily Herald reports. Autopsy results showed the 19-year-old had a blood alcohol content of 0.351, close to five times the legal limit for drivers, Northern Star, the NIU daily paper reports.

Lake Forest Man Kills Self, Casino Worker in Vegas
Authorities in Las Vegas say Edward C. Brandt of Lake Forest shot a 30-year-old concierge desk worker at a casino hotel before killing himself Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Jessica Corinne Kenny of Las Vegas was shot at the Excalibur resort, where she worked as the concierge desk worker for the travel website Vegas.com, ABC 7 News in Chicago reported on Dec. 17.
Brandt, 31, then shot himself in the head. Kenny was a 2000 graduate of Grayslake High School, according to the Daily Herald.
Las Vegas police Lt. Ray Steiber said that the two had dated for less than six months and then moved together to Las Vegas, as reported by ABC Chicago. They broke up 2 1/2 years ago.

Man Charged With Murder Had Long Arrest Record
A Des Plaines man charged with first-degree murder earlier this month was arrested multiple times in Cook County during the last 20 years, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
David P. Marshall, 38, of unincorporated Des Plaines, was arrested 25 times in Cook County since 1991, including the most recent arrest on a murder charge, according to a spokesperson for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Among the violations Marshall was accused of committing, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested seven times for battery, three times for aggravated assault and once for mob action – failure to disperse.
Marshall was arrested for driving on a suspended license by the Des Plaines police in 2000, stated Des Plaines Deputy Chief Nick Treantafeles.
Marshall was charged with first degree murder of Cicero resident Pablo Fernandez, DNAinfo.com Chicago reported. The July 21 murder followed an altercation at a bar in the 4200 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue, DNAinfo.com Chicago stated.
Crystal Lake
Man Charged with Criminal Sexual Abuse
A Crystal Lake man had inappropriate sexual contact with a child on various occasions over the period of one year, according to Crystal Lake Police.
Michael A. Petersen, 35, of 1390 Fair Oaks Ave., was arrested Friday, Dec. 14, without incident at his parents' Huntley home, according to Crystal Lake Police Commander Mike Brichetto.
Petersen was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, and one count of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 3 felony, Brichetto said in a press release. He was transported to the McHenry County Jail, with bond being set at $100,000.

Joe, Patch has had to change their m.o... the AOL concept bled millions and millions last year.
They are now realizing that political discussion and cutting and pasting news stories from local newspapers are the way they are going to get 'hits' on their site. This guy, Brian Slupski, formerly of the Daily Herald(?), is ahead of the curve when it comes to knowing what people will check out.

The last real president we had was John Kennedy. He was a thorn in the side of the central banking system...he wanted a silver backed dollar free of central bank manipulation. Check out presidential order 11110. He wouldn't go along with operation North Woods, which wanted domestic false flag attacks to justify invading
foreign countries (Bush and Cheney nailed that one), and he and his brother Bobby were trying to get the Mafia out of the government. The rest is history, and since 1968, nobody who's not playing ball with the big bad boys gets close to real power. I recommend everyone watch last week's PBS Frontline Documentary, Untouchables, about the financial crisis of 2008 and lack of Department of Justice action. Hey, great news, the guy in the movie, the head of the DOJ, Lanny Bruer who is wriggling just a little too much, like someone is under his desk with a gun pointed at his head while he's being questioned, stepped down the day after it was aired. It's a great documentary, and anyone who cares about where this country is going needs to check it out.

That documentary was wonderful and right-on. You should read Matt Tiabbi (GRIFTOPIA) and Yves Smith (ECONNED). Both really expose the underlying rottenness of the financial industry. I've often thought that Elliot Spitzer should have been our Attorney General. He's fearless and brilliant.

Unfortunately, neither of the Kennedys were very well-liked by the FBI or CIA. And both Kennedys had their fingerprints on the plans to overthrow Castro while looking like they didn't. But I agree with you. I wish Bobby had survived because I think he may have been a better president than John. Anyway, I was asking Dan that question for a particular reason.
