Police Release Photos Of Vehicle Possibly Involved In Hit-And-Run
The vehicle of interest is described as a two-tone van.
Police have identified a vehicle of interest in the hit-and-run crash that killed 18-year-old Gabriella Drozdz on July 22.
Cmdr. Kevin Finlon described the vehicle as a two-tone blue van with a lighter accent color, possibly silver or gray. Finlon added that the vehicle sought is likely a GMC Safari or Chevrolet Astro Van with damage to the passenger-side turn signal light.
Police released actual surveillance photos of the vehicle Friday. Finlon said the photos were taken the night of the hit-and-run and are from a business on Church Street north of the crash scene. The actual business, he noted, can’t be revealed because police are still actively reviewing video from several businesses.
The accident occurred just before 9:15 p.m. as Drozdz and her friends, Rosie and Vanessa Fitts, also of Lake Zurich, were walking along Church Street to Alpine Fest. The teens were near Jamie Lane when they were struck. Drozdz died of her injuries shortly after she was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Rosie, 16, and Vanessa, 18, were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries not considered life threatening. They later were released.
Anyone with information is asked to contact either Finlon at 847-719-1690, ext. 6118, or the Lake County Crime Stoppers at 847-662-2222.

This is such a sad sad story. No words can describe how someone can do something so horrific and live with themselves. My thoughts and prayers are with the family to get some sort of small justice in at least finding out who did this.

I'm glad now we can focus on what kind of vehicle we're looking for because I found myself looking at the front end of every SUV in every parking lot I've been in. Now that we know it's a van, I hope everyone tries to find this individual.

How can someone drive without there headlights on, hit three teenagers and just leave them there? This just made me sick to my stomach. My heart goes out to Gabriella's family. It's difficult enought to lose their daughter, but knowing this individual just kept going, makes it hard to fathom. Everyone, please be on the lookout for this vehicle.

I hope one of those cameras shows a license plate. I really thought someone would turn themself into the police by now, but the fact that one week has gone by and nobody has admitted to the hit and run is so disturbing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Drozdz family and may the person who did this burn in hell!

I hope the support and caring presence of the community help the the Drozdz family cope with the loss of Gabriella. I can only imagine the pain this family is going through, but it's even harder for me to imagine how the van driver can sleep at night. If anyone sees this van, please call Cmdr Finlon 847.719.1690.
