UPDATE: One Person Killed in Route 12 Crash
Kildeer Police are still investigating the accident on Route 12 near Quentin Road.
UPDATE, 8 p.m.: The driver of a vehicle involved in the accident at Route 12 and Quentin Road was pronounced dead at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Kildeer Police Chief Lou Rossi confirmed the fatality in a press release issued just before 8 p.m. The identity of the individual has not yet been released.
Rossi said Route 12 between Quentin and West Cuba Roads was closed for about three and a half hours as police and fire personnel responded to — and then investigated — the four-vehicle accident.
The accident is still being investigated by the Kildeer Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
6:35 p.m.: Portions of Route 12 are still closed as police and fire personnel investigate a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in multiple injuries.
The crash occurred near Route 12 and Quentin Road at about 2:39 p.m., said Capt. Robert Bachler of the Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department. Bachler said an off-duty firefighter/paramedic was on the scene and relayed information to emergency personnel. The firefighter/paramedic reported that there were multiple individuals requiring extrication, which led to the call for additional units at the site.
Bachler said upon arriving at the scene, fire/rescue personnel found four vehicles involved in the crash, with six possible patients. Two of the four vehicles had severe damage, Bachler said. He added that individuals had to be extricated from three of the vehicles.
Four individuals were transported to area hospitals — two to Advocate Good Shepherd in Barrington and two to Northwest Community Hospital. Two additional individuals refused medical attention, Bachler said.
Many area emergency agencies responded to this crash, including the Barrington, Palatine City, Palatine Rural, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Fox River Grove and Mundelein Fire Departments.
Check back with Lake Zurich Patch for further updates as they become available.

"Many area emergency agencies responded to this crash, including the Barrington, Palatine City, Palatine Rural, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Fox River Grove and Mundelein Fire Departments. " Did any of them think it would be a good idea to direct traffic away from the area? When I got close, is was gridlock because there was no one directing traffic away from the area.

A man died in this accident and there were others severely injured who had to be extricated from their vehicles. I think they had their hands full. And I'm pretty sure that your inconvenience of having to sit in traffic for a while is nothing compared to the pain and grief this family is enduring. Show some compassion.

Police were directing traffic at Rt. 12 and Cuba, not letting any cars go southbound on Rt. 12. This was around 3 pm. Caused backups in all surrounding areas but really how much more could be done?

How about a prayer for the man that passed away.
I was in that mess and I was complaining to my daughter about the traffic jam. I stopped myself midway through my complaint and I said to my daughter,"I really should not be complaining, someone may have died."
Lets just have a moment for the man that died.

DaddyO, I highly doubt the safety of those involved and the investigation of this horrible accident wasn't based upon what was convenient for you.
My thought and prayers go out to all involved. God bless.

Daddy-O's comment is a perfect example of what is so wrong with our society today. People so caught in their own lives and rushing around that the fact that a human life was lost takes a back seat to wherever DaddyO had to get to. Say a prayer for the man that lost his life, unless the few minutes it will take to do that is an inconvenience to you too DaddyO.
