New Walking Trail in Long Grove!
There was a new walking trail blazed in Long Grove due to a recent Eagle Scout project. It was done in conjunction with the Long Grove Park District. It is located northeast of the intersection of Route 22 and 83, on the north side of Port Clinton Road.
The project was done by future Eagle Scout, Kevin Perkowitz. This project lead by the future Eagle Scout consisted of planning and leading volunteers in blazing a 0.2 mile nature trail along Indian Creek for the Long Grove Park District. The project also included constructing two benches and installing them along the trail at two different spots. This was done over four days with 15-20 people each day equaling almost 300 hours of labor. To create this trail, trees and brush had to cut down with saws and felled wood had to be laid along the trail. The trail is 5 feet wide by 8 feet high. Tree stumps were also removed with pickaxes and shovels and the trail was also leveled in sloped areas with pickaxes, rakes and shovels.
Along with all of the volunteers from friends, family, other scouts and their families, Barrington Pools Inc. and David Mae Construction donated a load of wood chips that were used to cover the trail. RW Hendricksen Company donated time and labor to remove some large trees. Rental Max, donated the tree chipper at a discount. Bellaluke’s and Hackney’s allowed us to hold fundraisers at their restaurants that helped fund the materials and food for the project. Bellalukes also donated food for both of the trail blazing days. Home Depot donated $25 and gave tax-exempt status for the purchase of materials. Dunkin’ Donuts and Old World Bakery were very generous and helped us feed our volunteers.
