The match between the varsity football teams at Lake Zurich and Lake Forest was being touted by sports writers as being one of the top games to watch this week. But that game won’t happen.
Lake Zurich High School just announced that the game is officially cancelled. Lake Zurich will take a forfeit win, according to Jean Malek, communications director for Lake Zurich Community Unit District 95.

Lake Zurich High School announced that the sophomore football game for this evening has been cancelled.
Update, Sept. 14, 1:30 p.m.
Lake Zurich High School is expected to announce a decision about tonight's footall games this afternoon.
But, if tonight's games are cancelled, the Bears still may get a chance to play football this weekend.
Matt Troha, spokesman for the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) said LZHS can opt to either forfeit the game, and take a win, or to play with another area team that has an opening in its schedule. If the Bears opted to play with another team, the game would take place tomorrow.
A teacher strike at Lake Forest High School could impact Lake Zurich; if the teacher's don't return to work by Friday, the football game between the two schools will be forfeited, said Jean Malek, director of communication for Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95.
Lake Forest High School teachers went on strike early this morning as negotiations between the board of education and the teacher's union failed.
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA, the statewide prep sports governing body, said its board does not have the authority to change its bylaws and allow sports competition during a strike.
The IHSA ruling pertained to Chicago Public Schools, which went on strike Monday, but Lake Forest Community High School District 115 Board of Education President Sharon Golan said it applied to Scout teams as well.
The game between the Lake Forest Scouts and the Lake Zurich Bears at Varsity Field in Lake Forest is expected to be a showdown. Lake Forest's record is currently 3-0 and Lake Zurich's is 2-1.
