After failed attempts to D95 regarding the invalid 2009 radon test results, a formal request was made to remove the invalid D95 2009 radon results from their site. The tests were performed by an unlicensed individual; IEMA standards and protocols were not followed. D95 used 19 canisters districtwide. ALA and IEMA recommend over 600.
D95 defends the invalid radon results stating: “It should be noted that radon testing — and, in fact, IAQ testing in general — are recommended by the EPA but are NOT required by any agency.” Not true for D95, as the board approved the IAQ Management Plan wherein all IAQ testing, including radon testing, following IEMA WILL be performed.
We've been scammed. Radon is the second leading cause for lung cancer. We believed our schools were tested for radon following IEMA, but they weren’t. In spring 2011, under a grant, one facility was to be tested but just days before the testing began, the only trained and certified employee was released. He was about to place 74 canisters where only three were used in 2009. The cost was $15.
The testing still has not been performed. At the last COW meeting, the board heard from the administration they are continuing to assess the 2009 radon results, work on certification, perform a cost-benefit analysis and then will determine if testing will be done.
Unacceptable.
No more stalling! Remove the invalid 2009 radon results; perform radon testing in all schools following IEMA. Finally, the board should be censured for lack of oversight. The superintendent, facilities director and communications director should be censured for their intentional pattern of deception as it pertains to the management of the facilities.

I applaud this author for consistently providing the community with valid information regarding the condition of District 95 schools. I am once again shocked at the apparent complacency of the top administration for the air our children and staff members breathe. Unless the top administrator actually buys in to the seriousness of IAQ, we will continue to read useless information from the district. There is so much time wasted passing the buck and making excuses. It is past time for administrators and the school board to get good information and to make good decisions on this topic.
just wondering
