Several hundred members have already joined the new LA Fitness, which is under construction, on Rte. 12, said LA Fitness Manager Michael Whitmer. The club is being constructed in the former Wickes Furniture building at 825 S. Rand Road.

The club is projected to open later this fall, Whitmer said. 

The 43,000-square-foot club will include a 25-yard lap pool, state-of-the-art cardio and weight training equipment, free weights, a basketball court, whirlpool, spa, a kids klub for babysitting, a juice bar and numerous classes. Other amenities include leagues, personal training and a cycle room with 48 cycle bikes.

"LA Fitness wants to give people a place to work out in a fun environment," said Whitmer, who has worked at LA Fitness clubs in Round Lake Beach and Waukegan."We take an interest in everybody's personal fitness success."

"When you're driving down the road, there are so many places to be unhealthy, and not enough places to be healthy. We want to improve the health and wellness of the entire community," Whitmer said. 

Whitmer said the club has already started hiring instructors and will offer numerous classes including Zumba, Pilates, yoga, hip hop, total body conditioning and aqua fitness. 

"All the classes are free and you don't have to sign up for them. You just take them," Whitmer said. 

He said the club will have an open feel and be colorful. Whitmer said he likes this location as it a stand-alone and is situated among a green, treed area. 

The club is planning a grand opening that may include celebrity appearances. 

The club is also seeking a sub-contractor for its juice bar. 

LA Fitness is currently offering pre-opening rates. The monthly fee is $29.99 per month and the joining fee is phased. 

"The sooner you join, the less it costs," said LA Fitness sales representative Daniel Velasquez.
