Get Out: Farm Heritage Festival; Sing! Competition

1. Lake Zurich Heritage Farmers Market

Where/When: Lions Park; 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23.

Why Go?: Shop for locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. along with handmade items. The market will be held rain or shine.

Pricing: Free admission.

2. Sing! Live Performances

Where/When: Deer Park Town Center, 20530 N. Rand Road, Deer Park; noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24.

Why Go?: See your favorite performers live. Vocal groups and soloists will perform on the stage as they seek to move on to the next round of the competition for the superstar prize package.

Pricing: Free admission.

3. 19th Annual Farm Heritage Festival

Where/When: Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25.

Why Go?: Celebrate farm life with the Lake County Discovery Museum and the Lake County Farm Heritage Association from the turn of the century to the present. Tractor parade at 1:30 p.m. on both days and more than 200 tractors, steam engines and antique cars will be on display. Petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. See a sheep-herding demonstration, hear live music, watch scarecrow making, take a ride on a wagon and a barrel train. All ages are welcome. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The Ela Historical Society will have a display about local sports.

Pricing: $8 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 and older, and youth ages 4 to 17; free admission for children 3 and younger; $12 for two-day adult pass; $6 for two-day pass for seniors and youth.

4. Knight Music Academy Faculty Recital

Where/When: Ela Area Public Library; 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25.

Why Go?: Talented faculty members of the Knight Music Academy will perform a variety of solo and ensemble selections featuring the flute, guitar, cello, violin, piano and voice in the first of what is intended to become an annual event. A light reception with cake and punch will follow the recital.

Pricing: Free.
