Brunswick Zone Gets Multi-Million Dollar Update

New lanes for better bowling and bumpers make sport more enjoyable for little ones and the inexperienced.

Brunswick Zone in Lake Zurich completed an $800,000 renovation of its lanes, just in time for the fall leagues.

The bowling facility was built in the early '90s and it was time for a major update, said Yvonne Bartos, sales specialist at Brunswick Zone.

"There are all brand new pro lanes, brand new pin-setters, new 42-inch screens and monitors," Bartos said.

Mike Vanderspool, pro-shop operator at Brunswick, said the old lanes had more traction and friction, while the new ones are flatter and slicker.

"The new lanes are better for the sport. They paint a true picture of what type of bowler you are," Vanderspool said.

The more accurate lanes also come with bumpers that can be put up or down with the push of a button. The automatic bumpers make gutter balls a thing of the past, so new bowlers and young children can have more fun.

John Golick, a member of a senior bowling league from Lake Villa, said he is still getting used to the new lanes. He said really likes the new monitors.

"They're very good, bigger and a lot clearer," Golick said. Golick's 4-year-old grandson, Drake, seemed to really enjoy bowling with the bumpers up.

Brunswick Zone had a grand re-opening on Wednesday.
