About the artists
Tim Arnold is a ceramic artist. His work includes Raku, wheel thrown and contemporary style.
Artist Statement: To link craft and artistic ideals into a profound statement of imagery that stimulates the senses and engages the mind. Tim received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Illinois State University.
Daniel Wagner is a mixed media artist who combines abstract acrylics with found objects. His work also includes expressionist abstract paintings with acrylic and mixed media.
Artist Statement: My work starts with a gesture on the canvas. This gesture is an expression of a thought, a feeling or a connection to a scene or object. It is refined, pushed and built upon. The process includes building layer upon layer with different media and following many different paths of expression and thought. I am constantly adding and subtracting layers to my paintings. I work all layers at the same time, the more layers that are added to reflect what is below or hidden, the more abstract the work becomes. The initial gesture or expression is covered up or destroyed only to be brought back again in a different light and in a different layer. This abstract expression is also tempered with my training in and the discipline of architecture. All of the works have an underlining structure that is linear in thought; this is in contrast or a duality to the expression. This structure is comprised of architectural elements such as circles, squares and triangles. These elements may be bold or hidden to the casual eye.
Robert Porazinski works in oil and paints a surreal and transformative depiction of flowers.
Artist Statement: The paintings he has created over the past several years deal with issues of flux, the transitory and chance occurrence. They are inspired by combinations of images that he has photographed or found, assembled together and manipulated. Regardless of the subject the image takes on a transformative quality. They are simultaneously in a state of deterioration and metamorphosis. He states, "The liquefied image creates a surreal alteration of the subject that invites other metaphoric interpretations. My intent is to eliminate the distinction between abstraction and representation in my work – they are both one in the same”.
Cheri Stewart creates her unique jewelry with semi-precious beads and stones. Her work is created by using a needle and thread…she creates her art to wear on and off loom, one tiny bead at a time. Cheri has won numerous awards at fine art shows. "I've done needlework from childhood, but began seed bead weaving 8 years ago. I find it challenging and rewarding to create art to wear using tiny glass beads as my building blocks. It may take months to complete a piece, stitching each bead into place, bead by bead, row by row. In this world of instant gratification beading
gently reminds me to slow down and enjoy the journey."
